Isn't
each day a miracle!
The
dawn sun echoing from the lake.
Birds wheeling above,
Unbelieving as they see the ducks below.
A dog barks,
A sharp dissonance,
Cutting the dawn.
The church spire pokes its head above a quietening mist,
Forcing questioning silence on the soul.
The cemetery flowers from All Saints
Dawn washed in dew,
Give a sweet, a sickly scent akin to death.
A cock crows twice, uncertain of the prophecy.
My heart quickens in panic.
Is it my time of reckoning?
I choke on the frailties God chose to give me.
Silence. Aching, Timeless.
The sun breaks through the smothering mist.
Life giving, pouring forth its optimism.
The day is reborn.
I breathe again and call my dogs.
Their life force warms me.
We climb into the battered Rangy,
Invigorated. Hope renewed.
Thus we face the day.
Carpe diem.
